Minimising Trauma
Dressing changes can potentially damage both wound and surrounding skin.
Dressings such as gauze may adhere to the wound bed and cause damage and bleeding when removed. They should be replaced with a dressing that minimises trauma, such as soft silicone that will not adhere to the moist wound bed.

Dressing Selection
- The best dressing for each wound should be selected on an individual basis and reviewed at each dressing change
- It is generally preferable to choose a dressing that may be left in place for as long as possible in order to minimise interventions
- Select a dressing with an appropriate absorptive capacity to maintain a moist wound environment without leakage onto surrounding skin
